Response to M. Zahed Islam- littlebit of history of Bangladesh's politicians
Wednesday January 11 2006 14:22:27 PM BDT
Mohammad Abdullah ,U.S.A.
Indeed corrupt issues are addressed and prefer to provide facts and figures that reverberate in my ears and reflect as standing viewgraph in front of my eyes. For some reason at this old age I am able to narrate any incident or event taking any cross section of the globe at any instant of time. This is invariably ALLAH given mercy.
I am very much indebted to this capability as I do not need any text or writing or reference when I write some thing for the public domain. I do not know whether it is due to the memory graph or reflections of the incidents that took place in front of me including the past events that I read to comprehend. By the blessing of the ALMIGHTY ALLAH I am taking the same pen to forward my response to the content that M. Zahed Islam has asked for.
I have written long essays on KAMAL HOSSAIN more than one occasion at NFB during the past year or so. This ignorent politician is no politician other than a self serving chap having a trump card of Doctor of Philosophy (1964) from Britain. This fellow came to erstwhile East Pakistan in 1957 and managed to go to U.K. at his own money to pursue higher studies. He graduated (entire schooling for basic successive degrees) from India.
This person comes from a rich family from Park Circus. His rest of the relatives still live there. As I had noted in my previous postings Kamal Hossain was shy enough when V. V. Giri came to Bangladesh with a team of India journalists that contained Kamal Hossain’s family’s sub-ordinates.
Kamal Hossain is the figure who knows entire events of 1970-1971 as how Sheikh Mujib was taken to the Pakistani custody. It is a plausible concept that Kamal Hossain engineered Mujib’s surrendering process in 1971. Like Mujib this person is very dishonest about his utterances. The major difference between Mujib and Kamal is that Mujib was a diehard microphone lover while Kamal was a lesser degree microphone lover but presentation was more organized and sequential. Kamal was always less talking person and used to take time while talking.
This gap in delivery always provided time to him for the next structured presentation which Mujib always lacked. However, Kamal was always cautious in his utterances. Most recently he is looking for opportunity to drift politically so that he can vow himself as the next President of Bangladesh through the forthcoming Parliamentary election in 2006. Dear readers may remember that Kamal Hossain lost for the same job to late ousted President Abdus Sattar on November 15, 1981 election.
However, he became a winner within the Awami League (AL) party due to the primary support of Sheikh Hasina in June 1981 by over powering late Abdul Matin Chowdhury, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Dacca. At that time Hasina was newly inducted would be chief of the AL party as she arrived just a month before (May 15, 1981) from the Indian capital city leaving there her so-called scientist husband). Kamal Hossain gathered blessings from Mujib.
In the same way he gathered blessings from younger Hasina. Some how Kamal became little more ambitious and impatient that prompted him to split the viewpoints. Thus, Kamal became an intellectual and thereby a sound international scholar. During the ouster of Mujib in 1975 Kamal was visiting a few European countries.
Receiving this unpleasant news Kamal changed the course to U.K. and quickly sought refuge there with a fellowship as ousted Nigerian Prime Minister Yakubo Gowan got once from the same place. Therefore, getting a shelter was not a problem for Kamal Hossain as political career influenced to get that position. Usually such a position is available for native political victims. One may recollect that infamous song writer (such as Amaar Bhaiyer Roktey Rangano Hindukushey(?) February ….) Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury also got shelter in the same place assigning similar reason after August 15, 1975.
Most recently Kamal Hossain is gearing to the political motivation rather than achieving goals for the common people. He is a bona fide opportunist and a known culprit knowing facts and figures of 1971. He can easily remove the dispute as who declared INDEPENDENCE OF BANGLADESH. Also he can provide light to reveal as how Mujib was arrested. Further he can justify his role during 1971 in Pakistan.
Would he focus light as how he got boarded on the same aircraft in Islamabad Airport with Mujib to reach London Heathrow Airport on January 8th, 1972? Where was Kamal prior to boarding the aircraft that carried Mujib to London? How was he released from the custody while Mujib was still screaming in the next chamber of Altaf Gauhar in the custody cell? Would Kamal give the facts as how A. K. Brohi was lifted to become Mujib’s k(n)ousholi (LAWYER) in August 1971? Kamal Hossain should be arrested to get quizzed on the 1971 facts and real history of Bangladesh for the sake of the generations to come.
He is now the only alive figure who was with Mujib as SAHABA all the time than anyone else within Mujib’s party servers. Kamal’s honest is necessary to serve the country better than his political participation at this age. His honest role will make him great for the country if he opens his mouth instead of playing nasty games.
Badruddoza Chowdhury was a dishonest physician although many regard him as a talented scholarly person having high level education. He is the son of a former Minister during early Pakistani days of Noakhali origin. His language is very much polished and can readily deliver structured presentation at any instant of time. Thus he was quite popular among the students.
In the Dacca TV during late 1960s his show entitled AAPNAAR DAKTAAR was an excellent program primarily due to his delivery rather than the contents. He earned popularity immediately among the TV watchers. Professionally this person was very much controversial as his integrity was in question. He was known for the specialty in heart diseases. Much of his TV deliveries comprised of heart problems.
It is a surprise that he occasionally discussed artery blocking and subsequent necessity of the by-pass. However, it is very much unlikely that he had ever treated any heart patient with utmost sincerity. He used to make his patients victim using sweet tongue and treated them as pawns for his personal success. He never cared whether the patient expired. Once upon a time during 1970s a corrupt Engineer of one of the Universities suffered heart blocking.
Thus, this obvious corrupt patient was about to collapse. Finally, the Engineer patient approached B. Chowdhury for a certificate and favorable recommendation to get treatment abroad implying by-pass surgical operation. This type of surgery was globally pretty new in those days. Taking the advantage B. Chowdhury did not agree to recommend this Engineer patient outright. He justified again and again as waste of foreign currency and bla, bla, bla. The bottom line was that he did not allow this patient to be treated further abroad. He justified and asserted that such a heart problem is curable in Bangladesh through his involvement.
Eventually the health situation of the patient was degrading day by day. B. Chowdhury continuously denied recommendation for the open heart surgery for by-pass until last moment despite tons of foreign currencies available for the patient. At the last moment NACHHORHBANDA (not leaving opportunity) corrupt Engineer collected some great MAMAS (uncles) lying above B. Chowdhury from the early BNP stock members which allowed permission to go abroad for treatment.
Within the next two weeks this corrupt Engineer reached Western Hemisphere with all records of the treatment within Bangladesh. Earlier he communicated all these records with a Hospital (two physicians of the same place) through faxing and telex. The famous heart by-pass surgeon was Johnson at that time who was assisted by a Bengali speaking Brahmin Indian. This Indian was the first Heart By-Pass Surgeon in India. Both saved the corrupt Engineer having open heart surgery for 9-hours and, thus, ALMIGHTY ALLAH spared his life through the hands of these physicians.
As a physician B. Chowdhury has had this type of immoral honesty and vitiated character. He had no ethics with the patients. Blatant lies were his vehicles for justification. It is very relevant to add that he was very good in chasing young nurses during his early days. Like Indonesian President Ahmed Soekarno he knows how the nurses were chased in various Medical College campuses. Such a person was a controversial character as he was spared on the night of May 30-31, 1981 when Ziaur Rahman was killed.
This fellow was hiding underneath the bed when Zia was digesting bullets just less than 10-ft away. Later he was spared by the killers after small interrogation. He was not quizzed at a later date concerning how Zia was killed and who were those killers. Also he was not used in identifying their portraits.
However, later Ershad influenced and ordered behind the screen to execute 12 young Army officers (age 23 - for Lieutenant through 40 - for Brigadier) for Zia killing showing an excellent judicial system operative in the democratic nation.
Many of these officers were not even involved in the Zia killing but B. Chowdhury kept silent on this issue till to date. Yet he seems to be a great CHAMCHA (lieutenant) of Ziaur Rahman. He could have unmasked Ershad’s ill design within the Army clearing out freedom fighters. Most recently B. Chowdhury is engaged in dirty politics as he was fired by the present administrators.
Choosing B. Chowdhury was a diluted democratic outcome in the first place. It is not a mistake but a sort of practice in our society to install corrupt individuals in high offices. The present choice of the President is also having similar effect as was in the case of B. Chowdhury. To take revenge and then achieve personal gain he joined Kamal Hossain. Thus, B. Chowdhury prefers to call for an intellectual platform in conjunction with Kamal Hossain as if two intellectuals have done great job serving the people of the country.
Shafiul Alam Pradhan is the son of Monem Khan’s Provincial Minister Gamiruddin Pradhan of Dinajpur. Committing crime is the venture of this fellow. Like Lieutenant Sheikh Kamal this fellow used to carry guns all over the map. He became a freedom fighter too. It is strange to know that he was pardoned for the suspicious murder on the University of Dacca campus that took place in early summer 1973.
The case was opened in mid 1976 where its description was a popular feature in the national newspapers for a while. Entire nation knows his role and I wonder as how such a political figure gets latitude in the political arena. Father was a Muslim Leaguer and the son was an AL activist. Diametrically two poles are quite opposite in nature. But this is a common scenario for many confused families. This miniature politician has accumulated corrupt avenues to climb the ladder. It is not unlikely that this person will not be favored by our people in the next election.
The problem is with the democratic system that we have. As I had suggested a few times that the present democratic system needs refreshment like several Western styles including Japan in the East. Will it be ever taken into consideration to achieve better people in the Parliament by modifying the constitution? Are we ready to eliminate such people constitutionally? It is not a surprise that Pradhan will be a future hero of the country through dirty meddling with some rejected woman such as Bidisha, Ershad acclaimed bigamist at least.
Hasnaul Hoque Inu is not a daily featured man. He is neither a man of potential character nor a threat to the country at this moment. Unless he becomes a broad range political tout until then people do not see much fear from his presence. However, he is becoming a threat to the future based on his accumulated credential.
Such a character is now emerging as a future hero. Some day he will be in the throne too if the present democratic system exists. Invariably a change is necessary to erect a dynamic democratic system to eliminate such scoundrels from the political arena. Ershad is a man of taste. Thus, he accumulated several ORBACHINS (strangers) in the political scenario to keep his personal periphery in tact.
As a result Ershad fed lot of people including Hoque Inu implying giving share of the flesh. This rising chap is trying to get attention from the public as if he is going to be a future character of the country. What else can be remarked at this time about this personality? In this context we may recollect that a chemical engineer from EPUET (now BUET) by the name Siraj Sikder did not contribute anything as an engineer but created some deeply demarcated political legacy. Is similar example exhibited by Hoque? Well, the people doubt very much. The same way tout leaders doubt too but they would like to use him for mutual advantage.
Rashed Khan Menon is one of the sons of Abdul Jabbar Khan, former Speaker of the Pakistan’s National Assembly elected by the Basic Democrats of Ayub regime. He is a known hero for a long time since his early days in 1960s. The family life was some what controversial for him as well as his brothers. No wonder such people teach betterment of the people. What is strange in it? He was a known fashionable Moscow-Ponthi (pro-Moscow) Leninbadi Leninist) leftist while his late brother Enayetullah Khan was a prominent pro-Dollar Marxist. Another brother was believed to be a pro-Mao TUCHI (chairman) Communist activist and received Yahya’s lashes in 1970 by visioning separate East Pakistan.
Achieving these activities Hindu style named Menon (not related to Krishna Menon) vows to be a superb HERO of the first order. Once he was targeted for assassination. His brother tried to climb ladder by using Ziaur Rahman’s neck in late 1970s. Is there any harm if he tries to use Mian Ershad’s neck? Each of these personalities never took the bribe. See his editor brother’s obituary which never told anything that he had a Burmese wife affair. Why do we have to bother about these great personalities that our country had or hadn’t in the past?
Kader Siddique was a sort of VOODOO freedom fighter. He expressed complete package support for Mujib in early 1972. Therefore, he agreed to surrender arms only to him. Upon Mujib’s returning from Calcutta on February 8th 1972 Kader Siddique surrendered arms peacefully. This was the first such occasion in Bangladesh that took place before other freedom fighters did. Indeed this was a heroic example.
Yet he is a VONDO (so-called) because of his attitude toward the newly liberated country. Had he been a genuine freedom fighter of the country then he should have muscle to display at any time when the country was expecting protection from both internal problems beside outside threats. He was not available for the service to the country. Instead he fled to India and sat there for years.
It is known fact that in 1972 he passed the S.S.C. Examination on a special room arrangement with a bed. Yet his result remained within some what passing range. This certificate was more than adequate to justify him as a scholar. Indeed his marvelous book is a scholarly creation while he seated in the safe haven of Mujibnagar. He had no shame while he crossed the border. If he is so BAGHA then what was his fear?
The global audience saw the role of Boris Yeltsin when Mikhail Gorbachev was ousted in August 1991. If Kader Siddique had courage he should have asserted with several others within the then Army officials in favor of Mujib. Didn’t Khaled Musharraf or Safat Jamil show solidarity with Mujib’s legacy though losers? I remember BAGHA Jatin had this title as he killed single-handedly a man-eating Royal Bengal Tiger without any arms in undivided Khulna area over hundred years ago. Since then he became BAGHA JATIN instead of Jatin Mukherjee. His political ending is much more heroic as his body was found after the well encountered gun fight.
Recently Kader Siddique talks about the political situation of Bangladesh. What is the bottom line sacrifice for the people? By killing some non-Bengali speaking humans without running judicial system in post-liberation period in broad day light is not heroism by any standard. This action did not put Bangladesh in any civilized standard when compared to the atrocities of the unarmed civilians by the Pakistanis in Bangladesh. Any civic sense holder can realize this action. Did he contribute to the development of the country? In the human history the leader comes to the fore front and takes the radar to provide the gear of advancement.
Is this the case for Kader Siddique? Sitting in the Indian lap since the days of Begum Indira Gandhi this freedom fighter demonstrated anti-Bangladeshi role. How this personality can become a nation server? Indeed it is possible as we have the present type of democratic platform. Unless we restructure the democratic platform, this type of persons will penetrate in the administrative machinery. Could we stop it with the present loop-hole system?
Regarding H. M. Ershad we have dimensionless stories. He is a great hero during the post Ziaur Rahman days. He has demonstrated the role of Army in administering the country. He launched a timely coup as BOT-TOLAAR UKIL JUSTICE Mohammadullah became Vice President by displacing Mirza Nurul Huda. Thus, he was the instrumental of launching bloodless coup against Abdus Sattar. This stupid General finished two birds with one bullet and ate enough the cream of the yogurt. However, he is a well known maagi-baaz (women enjoying) President and Chief Martial Law Administrator of Bangladesh.
Once upon a time Maryam Abdullah OROFEY Mary was a visible figure at the Bangladesh Embassy all over the world. Ershad never forgot to meet her in the Western Hemisphere even he was traveling in the East. It is nit quite ascertained whether her lawyer was able to give the divorce note to Ershad while the elevator door was closing in a Hotel in London. Nevertheless, Bangladesh entered in modernization of the Aviation system of the country. First three DC-10 was purchased with at least 200 Crore (2000 Millions or 2 Billions) Takas.
At least some 10% went as commission for this foreign purchase which was believed to have been consumed by all Biman serving employees including several administrative chaps including Mian Ershad. Who had two heads then to encounter his consumption of Takas so that one can be sacrificed and the other can still fight against his misrule? Well, Mian Ershad was a teacher of Mister 10% in the global arena. At a later date Mr. Jardari, husband of Benazir Bhutto, became Mister 10% title holder in Pakistan though Mian Ershad was the founder of such a title. During a SAARC Meeting in Dhaka Mian Ershad began praising Pakistani General Ziaul Huq circa 1989 in presence of the Pakistani female Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
At the same time Mian Ershad began cursing Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. After the end of Mina Ershad’s lecture turn of the Microphone came to Benazir Bhutto. At the outset she began praising Ziaur Rahman and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. At that time Mian Ershad’s face turned gloomy. Nevertheless, the lecture was not interesting but Mian Ershad got slash from this 36 year old lady with Jardari next to her. During lunch time on the same day Mian Ershad repented for his utterances in the same morning from.
Mian Ershad was a man of taste natural features. Thus, he introduced several FOOLL-BAGANS and BAAGICHAAS (flower gardens) around the capital city at the cost of the public money by abandoning several useful preceding projects. Legend says that if General Abdur Rahman had not revealed for the removal of Mian Ershad via retirement package by the Sattar Administration there would have been no blood less coup. Rather Abdur Rahman would have become the Chief of the Army and the democratic system would prevail. Instead Abdur Rahman died in France while serving Bangladesh Embassy. Mian Ershad’s woman affair is endless. Similarly his fatherhood on January 18, 1983 is still a glorious mystery. Perverted leaders have plagued our small country.
Limitless stupid people capture power and it has become a norm of the country regardless of time and situation. The character of the leaders are so complicated that at any instant of time these living creatures become Parliament members while in custody from at least five different constituencies. This unchallenged victory for these corrupt leaders cannot be stopped unless an immediate action is taken to modify constitution if beneficial democracy has to run effectively. Otherwise Mian Ershad or Kader Siddique or Rashed Khan or Hasanul Hoque or Shafiul Alam Pradhan or Bodruddoza Chowdhury or Kamal Hossain will repeat in the system without resistance.
This is regardless of the level of education of the people of the country. Again in order to resist such corrupt personalities from the entrance into the politics the constitution must be reformed. Most European style democratic format is acceptable otherwise we may think about the Japanese system.
The Billion Taka question is who will take the lead to reform the constitution of the country so that better people can come to the administrative system? Is there any sensation of the present administration or any one in the opposition? Who thinks about the country’s future for the generations to come? Who listens to the advice that is more than likely to be beneficial to the country? Indeed the bell needs to be mounted to the neck of the cat.
