Nine get life term in two murder cases

July 11: A court here on July 6 convicted and sentenced nine persons to rigorous imprisonment for life each in two murder cases.
District and Sessions Judge of Faridpur, Azizul Haque, after examining witnesses and relevant documents found the nine accused persons guilty and announced the punishment.
In the first case, the judge convicted and sentenced three people to life term each and fined each Tk 5,000, in default, to suffer RI for another one year each for murder.
The convicts are Hafez Shiekh, Joly Begum and Laila Begum of Kamargaon village under Boalmari Upazila of the district.
The prosecution alleged that the accused persons, following an altercation over plucking gourds, attacked their neighbor, Khadiza Khatun, on May 19, 1999 and injured her by beating.
They also caused grievous injuries to her husband Saheb Ali when he came for the rescue of his wife.
Saheb Ali was admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Khadiza Begum filed a case with Boalmari thana accusing Hafez Shiekh, Joly Begum and Liala Begum.
Police, after an investigation, submitted charge sheet against them.
In the second case, the same judge examined witnesses and relevant documents in the Alam Munshi murder case, found six persons guilty and sentenced them to imprisonment for life and fined each Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer RI for another five years.
The convicts are Shakawat Mollah, Sekander Mollah, Akhter Mollah, Bishu Miah, Shahidul Islam and Kubbat Mollah of Kolimajhi village under Boalmari Upazila.
The prosecution alleged that the accused following a previous enmity murdered Alam Munshi of their village on July 18, 2003. A case was filed with Boalmari thana against six people.
