The Christian community of the country yesterday observed the Easter Sunday with religious fervour to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Christians throughout the world celebrate the festival to mark the end of Lent, the 40-day repentance period.

Before the sunrise, devotees engaged themselves in prayer. According to the Christian religion, after crucification on Good Friday, A considerable number of Christian men and women participated in the sunrise services at the churches. Christians believe that Jesus resurrected on Easter Sunday after he was crucified on Good Friday. Easter celebrates the belief that Jesus Christ died for the sins of humanity.

The Easter Sunday has a special significance to the followers of Jesus Christ. A sunrise prayer was arranged at the south plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad yesterday. Inspired by the ideals of the Jesus, devotees took part in the prayer with a view to leading a meaningful life overcoming all sorts of sins and frustration.

Various symbols are associated with Easter including the cross, Easter lilies, which represent the purity of new life, and a lamb which links the Christ’s death to that of the lamb sacrificed on the first Passover. Like Christmas, Easter has numerous traditions including Easter eggs, Easter baskets, Easter bonnets, Easter parades and Easter brunch.
