Four murdered in Barisal

BARISAL, Aug 10: Four persons, including a woman and a Jubo Dal leader, were murdered in the district during the last 24 hours, ending at 6 pm Tuesday.
Local people chased and captured two alleged killers of the Jubo Dal leader and handed them over to police.
Police and family sources said a group of armed miscreants entered the under-construction house of Mahfuza Khanam, mother of two children, at Chandipur under Kotwali police station in the early morning on Tuesday.
The miscreants tied thehands of construction workers and the inmates of the house including Mafuza and then strangulated her to death. Later, the killers threw the body into the nearby canal.
Local people rushed to the spot, freed the inmates and recovered the body of Mafuza from the canal.
Police sent the body to the local hospital for postmortem.
No case was lodged until filing of this report Tuesday evening.
Engineer Joynab Khanam Eva and his father Qari Abdul Majid were in a acid attack inside their house on August 28, 1998 night by some of their relatives over a family feud.
Mahfuza, the elder sister of Joynab, was the complainant acid throwing case. The miscreants allegedly created pressure on Mahfuza to withdraw the case, but she refused their proposal, the police said.
The body of the victim was sent to the local hospital for autopsy.
In another incident, Helal Molla(26), organising secretary of Chandshi union Jubo Dal under Gournadi police station was slaughtered by some assailants on Char Ramjanpur dam on Monday night.
Hearing the cry of the victim, local people rushed to the spot and after chasing up to one kilometre caught two killers – Pannu Faria (32) and Palash Molla(28).
They were handed over to police after a mass beating.
Police sources said the murder was a sequel to an extra-marital affairs between victim Helal Molla and Nilufa Begum, second wife of the alleged killer Pannu Faria.
Kader Molla, father of the victim, lodged a murder case accusing four persons including with Gournadi police station.
Yunus Bepari(40) of Nayakhali under Mehendiganj upazila of the district died at the local hospital after being critically injured by the rivals in a clash over land dispute on Monday night.
Ali Ahmed Bepari of Bonga village under Andharmanik union of the same upazila was slaughtered in his house on Tuesday early morning by some unidentified assailants.
