Yes I have also gone through CPD website. It was established in the year of 1993 for following reasons:
1. Mr. Rehman Sobhan and his gang of so called economists were calculating that after overthrow of Ershad Awami League would come to power in 1991 Election. Their expectations were shattered as BNP came victorious. Rehman Sobhan gang were looking to findout means to undermine BNP Government.
One way was to befool the Bangladeshis through Debapriyo's numerical caricatures to show that Bangladesh has made no progress in economy & development. CPD was primarily established for this purpose. So far as I was informed Mr. Debapriyo had his Ph.D in Communistic Economy from erstwhile Soviet Union. How he accomodated 'Free Market Economy' with that of 'Controlled Economy' is itself a matter of research. Cynics say that his Ph.D is on 'Na Sharu'. For explanation please ask him.
2. It is an open secret that Rehman brothers (including Faruque Sobhan, who served as BD FS) are men of Indian origin (non Bengali) and having some kind og Indian attachment. Mr. Rehman came to lime light during late sixties when he was writing series of articles on East-West desparity when he was a lecturer of Department of Economics, Dhaka University. His works were extensively used by Awami League and by those whe saw exploitation of Bengalis by Punjabis to promote Bangladesh struggle for Independence. He became a very close associate of Bangabandhu.
But it is a matter of fact that this very Mr. Rehman Sobhan was largely responsible for depopularising Bangabandhu by giving extremely disastrous advices to nationalise all industries & financial institutions of newly created Bangladesh. All these were entrusted with illiterate Party Workers who saw personal benefit in them. Result was famine & mismanagement. In short Mr. Rehman & his leftist & atheists gang never wanted to see Bangladesh flourish. Because they were working as tools of Indian interest mongers.
3. When in 1996 Awami League came to power CPD was all busy to inflate positive indicators of economic growth to show that Awami League is doing better than BNP. Please ask Debopriyo to place all their reports made during that period when truth will come out.
4. Our learned readers will remember the night of General Election of 2001 when now disbanded Ekushey TV was airing a discussion headed by Mr. Debopriyo. When in the beginning Election Commission was giving those results positive for Awami League, Mr. Bhattacharia was all praise for Awami performance. His face started turning blue when BNP's landmark victory results were coming.
In a haste programme was cancelled in the midway by citing an excuse that ' election results are coming so frequently that we are unable to continue the programme' although in the beginning it was told that it is a 'whole night programme'.
Fact is Mr. Bhattacharia was fully prepared to tell the nation that it is the 'economic miracle' of Awami League which has turned voters to vote for Awami League in a landslide. But his dreams were shattered.
5. Now again these anti Bangladeshi elements have joined hands to undermine what ever we have achived during last five years. Contrary to their presentation, any simple man will find that Bangladesh has made tremendous progress in these years. Dhaka & other cities and remote villages will testify the facts. No one needs Mr. Debopriyo to fingering.
5. CPD stands for Centre For Policy Dialogue. About what with whom. We have never seen any dialogue about fiscal policy or otherwise. We have seen numerical caricatures not verymuch understood by trustees themselves presented in funfare. Except Industrialist Syed Monzoor Elahi & Economist Syeduzzaman, others in the Board of Trustee are not very trust worthy. Each one has a controversial tail connected behind.
6. Now CPD, together with Ptothom Alo & Daily Star is busy organising socalled discussion on electing 'honest' people in next General Election. They have formed a 'Citizens' Committe' as if other than these known faces are non-citizens. Most of these citizens in this committe are themselves corrupt. For transperancy, and if these 'wise & honest' citizens have courage, let them declare their own assets first and how much they deposited as income tax to national treasury. By organising such politically motivated get-togethers CPD is clearly violating country's rule. Criminal proceedings may be drawn against them.
