Amin Bazar grenade carrier linked to Aug 21 attack

Tuesday January 18 2005 11:08:05 AM BDT

Mohammad Hossain, arrested with a hand grenade on January 10 from Amin Bazar, was shown arrested in the August 21 grenade attack case yesterday and put on a three-day remand for interrogation.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Abdus Salam granted the remand.

In the remand prayer, the Criminal Investigation Department said the grenade recovered from Hossain was identical to those used in the grenade attacks on an Awami League rally on Bangabandhu Avenue on August 21 last year.

The grenade was carried for sale or to carry out destructive activities and he needs to be quizzed to find out his accomplices, the remand prayer said.

The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested 48-year-old Hossain of Jhenaigati upazila under Sherpur district and seized the grenade and a piece of ivory from his possession at Amin Bazar on January 10.

Mohammad Abdul Aziz, a warrant officer of Rab-4, filed a case with the Savar Police Station accusing Hossain under the Explosives Substances Act on January 12.

Earlier Savar police took Hossain on a three-day remand.
Twelve people including saibal Saha Partha were shown arrested in the case before.
