M Moslem, a convict in a rape case, was hanged to death at 12.01 midnight on Wednesday in the Dhaka Central Jail, reports BSS.

The Judge of Manikganj District Women and Children Repression Resistance Special Court awarded the capital punishment to Moslem of village Goalkhali under Keraniganj thana of Dhaka district on February 8, 1999.

Later, both the divisions of the Supreme Court rejected appeal of the accused. At last, the President also rejected his mercy petition, said a official handout.

According to the prosecution story, Moslem, a rickshawpuller, raped seven-year-old dumb girl Salma on November 12, 1995, at a paddy field at village Nayadangi under Singair thana in Manikganj district.

At one stage, Salma became senseless. Then Moslem left her thinking that the girl died.

The case was filed with Singair thana.
