A young man was killed in Khulna city on Saturday night while an alleged member of an extremist group was beaten to death in Bagerhat on Sunday.

The deceased are Ruhul Amin Babu, 24, of TB Cross Road in Khulna city and Ripon Sheikh, 25, of village Baliadanga under Fakirhat upazila in Bagerhat.

The police said some young men called Babu out of his TB Cross Road residence on Saturday night. He did not return since then. His family members failed to track him down.

Local people saw Babu’s body in a pond Sunday morning and immediately informed the police of the matter.

The police sent the body to the Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy and arrested a young man, Sohel, in this connection.

In Bagerhat, local people enclosed the house of Ripon Sheikh, a suspected member of an extremist gang, when he returned to his village home at Fakirhat on Sunday morning.

The people caught him and beat him severely. He died on the spot.

The people seized a gun from his possession, the police and local people said.

In separate incidents in Khulna, people beat up and gouged out eyes of two suspected members of an extremist gang on Sunday.
