Ghastly!

Saturday February 14 2004 13:36:48 PM BDT

CHITTAGONG, Feb 12: An insane tribesman allegedly hacked his five family members to death before killing himself at remote Pakkatila village in Manikchhari Upazila of Khagrachhari district Wednesday night, reports UNB.

Police said Kasamkuma Tripura, 45, who had reportedly tried to commit suicide twice in the past, hacked his wife, three sons and two daughters indiscriminately with a ‘dao’ before killing himself with the same kitchen knife.

They all died on the spot, except Kasamkuma’s seven-year-old son Samiron Kumar Tripura. He suffered severe injuries in the attack and was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

The deceased were identified as Kasamkuma’s wife Surjabala Tripura, 35, sons Lai Kumar Tripura, 12 and Lal Mohon, 8, and daughters Lal Moti Tripura, 10, and Moina Bala Tripura, 5. Police recovered their bodies this morning.

The Deputy Commissioner and the Police Super of Khagrachhari district visited the spot.
When contacted over phone from Dhaka, Deputy Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman told UNB that Kasamkuma Tripura struck his family members with ‘dao’ and hacked in various parts of their bodies, including throats and heads.

“…and there was a clear sign of hacking in the throat of Kasamkuma who had tried to commit suicide twice in the past by taking poison,” he said quoting brothers of the insane man.

Samiran also told police that his father hacked them and then killed himself.
A case was filed in this connection.
